Sounds like he is the boss from Dilbert! You can't determine cost until you have a known working design.
Not really, one important design parameter is cost. If you do not know max cost up front, you may spend weeks designing something that is not feasible. That this often result in an answer "impossible" is another thing. If you do not have a cost target, you may propose a Cadillac when the customer can only afford a small Chevy. Anyhow at 8000 units, I do not think the cost target of $20 is totally ridiculous, although he may save money by building 10.000 instead (has happened to me). What Christion need to do is to make some experiments with transmit in one end of the wire and receieve at the other (careful with them fingers). Erik |
