#96252 - Cost?
Responding to: ???'s previous message

according to the boss the product should not cost more than $20 USD and must be able to receive the command from the master for at least 600m

What cost is that?

  • Components & materials?

  • Fully assembled units?

  • Fully assembled units including allowance for development costs?

  • Something else?

One of the Key drivers of Zigbee is low cost (they're suggesting it for use in toys), and one of its specific application areas is seen as lighting control.
Might be worth investigating how close they've actually got to this goal...

Of course, there is some up-front learning-curve cost - but it sounds like you'll have that anyway with your as yet unknown mains-borne scheme.

Probably also some up-front tool/stack cost (although - dare I say it - Microchip have a free stack for the PIC)

Could also depend whether you think this mains-borne scheme will ever get used in anything else...
