What I meant by "most of the time" is that I've only used the old '420's in external memory applications, and only a limited set of those, so I can only vouch for those that I've done. It's worked entirely as expected there.
I'd have no reservations at all in using the '420, even those of very early vintage as i8032 replacements. Never having attempted to program and re-use the FLASH, and never having attempted IAP of the '420, I can't comment on those features. Since it's known that the early production had flaws with respect to IAP and FLASH corruption, those bugs, already documented, would not surprise me. In every situation in which I've plugged this part in as an 8032, it's performed better than expected. What more could I ask? RE |
