and I've got a small, ~4-oz bottle, that contains all the "bad" digital IC's encountered over those 40 years. Several of them are 1488/1489's and a couple are 'LS24x's. There are NO MCU's, a couple of DRAM's, which I broke myself, and one or two others.

The bottle's still half-empty. (this does not mean I'm a pessimist!)

I suspect your problem is in how and when you do things. You'll figure it out.
