#118075 - It's not rude ...
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Yes, One can be in a hurry ...

You can have DigiKey send you parts via USPS, which costs what the mail costs. It's not much, and, considering the mysteries encountered here, might have been worth it.

You probably should consider taking what the Maxim/Dallas folks tell you a bit more seriously. If you're specific, they won't lie.

If you should happen to build another prototype, I'd recommend you consider making sure it works. Guessing isn't a good practice, and wire-wrap will get you past that, whereas 15 PCB's might not.

You see, it takes 10 minutes to do, in wire-wrap, what 30 minutes on a PCB wont' do. Yes, you need a tool, but the ones from Radio Shack, that look like a jeweler's screwdriver, and cost about $7 are as good as any you can get. True, you can buy automatic tools, like what I have, but you don't make your living by producing working circuits overnight, whereas I've had to do that. Once you have the equipment, it's yours, however, so once you've done it, it's over.

I can send you a tool, if you want one, but you'll have to get your own bit and wire. For hobby projects, that Radio Shack tool is hard to beat. I use it for field fixes when I have to.

Wire-wrap is, under some circumstances, e.g. high mechanical stress, vibration, etc, superior to circuit boards. Early space hardware was wire-wrapped, up to the point at which stitch-weld was approved. It was dimensionally denser.

I have a TVI 925 and a Hazeltine Esprit terminal. Of course, I do have lots of PC's, including a few notebooks, but the terminals don't foul up as much as the Windows-based terminal emulators.

I can't imagine any way in which P0 pullups could foul up your memory access. I CAN imagine that you might lose a character or two in an emulator that truncates your messages. I'd be interested in knowing more about that.

Why not try this with a "standard" crystal. I'll send you an 11.0592 MHz crystal if you like. I bought a couple of hundred of them for abuot 15 cents each. I won't miss one or two.
