no such impilcation (if 128k flash and 8k RAM will suffice) 'implies' that if the max available internally in various derivatives is not enough, you WILL need external memory. Further, I disagree with your approach of using the part that provides "at least plenty" of memory. out of context, the statements is: "for development use a part ... There's got to be a reaosn why most eval boards use an external code memory. I have 12 different eval boards here of modern design and NONE have external memory (just to stop an unnecessary reply - they are NOT all SILabs) The real issue here is that my post was NOT a reply to the OP (the title 'on saving pins' states that clearly) the ictalisized quote at the top (why are you allergic to doing that) clearly stated that it was a reply to your statement "It does, after all, save a pin." where I replied, "if you want to save a pin, why not do it in a way that gives plenty".
