I'm currently running a 2x32 LCD on port 7 of my Silabs ...F020 developement board. I set it up with the data bits on the upper nibble and Enable specifically on P7.0 so that it can be easily toggled by increment and decrement of the port. The only real issues I had to deal with was the speed of the F020 and the fact that on this controller Port 7 is not bit addressable. I maintain a "mirror" byte which I send to the port and then just toggle the enable bit by incrementing or decrementing the port. For my particular application it works like a charm.
