#92580 - How could I have been so wrong! Responding to: ???'s previous message |
To suggest using a RTOS in a 8 bit cpu as being nonsense - is nonsense! There's heaps of commercial products products that use 8 bit cpus and have a pre-emptive RTOS. Mind you, these weren't using an 8051! I think a safer statement would be to avoid using a RTOS where possible as there are most likely better techniques that can be used. I really can't fathom the myopic outlook in saying that RTOS + 8bit cpu = bad along with some people saying that floating point + 8bit cpu = bad. Having said this, for most of my 8bit work I have not used a RTOS and when I have it wasn't using a 8051. I have worked on other products that have used a RTOS and may have benefitted by not using one. One uses the benefit of experience to determine what solution is going to produce the required output. To totally exclude the possibility of using a RTOS is not good engineering. (I can feel the heat now!) |
