I was just about to respond the same way Jan did. You will find most of the demo boards and hobbyist style boards won't have much, if any protection. In designing 'professional' boards, more work is expended in making the design robust and compliant with CE (or whatever) than the actual core design itself! You have to take into account the application of the device - home, commercial, industrial, automotive, medical,aerospace or military all comes into play as to how robust and reliable the design is.
