But for the "long" I2c wire (some 20 meter in total, I guess), I will use the I2c line extender (82B715). So, I don't think that will be a problem, right?

Using the extender does improve the ability to handle capacitive loading, but not the noise immunity. I would'nt use IIC for this.

noise resistance
resistive pull-up: poor
push-pull: fair
differential: excellent

thus I would connect the two boxes with a RS484 or RS422 link and have a processor in both.
