ROM Monitor & 8255s - suggests a historic design.
Rendered obsolete by modern derivates with on-chip flash, on-chip debug, and plenty of IO without the need for bolt-on expanders.

I think the uPSD or SiLabs would be much better choices - especially if you go for a uPSD with on-chip debug.
