The other big problem when using an ICE is actually attaching the thing to the target board - there's the purely mechanical issues, plus the extra lead-lengths and capacitances of the probe.

While this is probably not a big issue on a 40-pin DIP 8051 at 11MHz, it is a huge issue with high-speed processors - especially in modern, tiny packages!
