#120414 - it can SEEM to you all you like, but ... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
that's not the case.
The 8155 was designed for use with the original (12MHz)i805x and the faster (11 MHz) versions of the 804x family. Nothing could be simpler when attaching one of these to a standard (12 MHz 12-clocker) 805x, since you need simply hook up the signals with the same names and let-'er-rip. The ports, BTW, are NOT the same as those on an i8255, in case you've not read the datasheet. The thing also contains some XRAM, which can come in handy, so don't be so quick to condemn the use of the thing. It would be really nice if there were, in fact, a device of this type that would work with the current-generation devices, but, sadly, there isn't. You can build one in programmable logic, but that's a lot of bother for someone who's learning. I know that YOU, Erik, believe that anything on which the ink is dry is obsolete, but I'd recommend you look in the mirror. Those things that worked back when dinosaurs, like the i8052, AND the 8255, (which I've never liked, BTW) roamed the earth still work if used as intended. This guy's problem, however, is that he isn't smart enough to read the datasheet. He's counting on the likelihood that there are a few dummies on this site who'll do that work for him. RE |
