Or, More likely, select variants that don't need any programmer at all!

There are pleny of variants available that can be programmed with nothing more than an RS232 link and some free software; eg, Flashmagic, Flip, etc

I think some Dallas parts can even be programmed using nothing more than Hypoterminal?!
