When your boss, an engineer with many years' experience, tells you to build a circuit with THESE components, do you tell him, "Oh, but it would be much better to use these ..." or some such? He'd likely not be pleased.
I did, several times, and in all cases (s)he was pleased. In one case even jubilant, I saved $0.84 per unit (680.000 were made) Of course, you can find the anachronsims for whom the clock stopped they day the left college (were I one of those, I would be designing mainly with vacuum tubes) but if you HAVE to work for one of those, a gentle nudging can provide results, if not get another job. A true professional will refuse to make crap (OK, in this day and age trundle along while desperately looking for another job). I think that a lot of the crap on the market is the result of the competent part of the engineering community not standing up for what is right. Erik |
