#131419 - 1 sided... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Truth is Erik, I'm just gearing up to try it. I've been playing with the freeware version of Eagle, and it constrains me to a rather small two layer board. I tried laying out the standard 40 pin PDIP '52 + latch & SRAM and MAX232 over the weekend, and it takes up a sizeable percentage of the available board space. Switching to a PLCC package cuts my chip footprint from 702 mm^2 to 306 mm^2. If I want to try the fine pitch soldering, I can get it down to 144 mm^2 with the TQFP. Not drilling is just kind of a bonus, though I suspect I'll be sending Cadsoft some money soon. If I can get a 90% routed solution on a one sided board, and use "zero ohm" resistors for the second side I can escape the image registration issues too, which would be nice for homebrew etching. High speeds to be avoided due to lack of ground planes obviously... |
