A resident debugger was the best that 1980's technology could do - but we're into the 21st century now! If 1980's developers had had on-chip debug hardware and JTAG interfaces available, they would never have bothered with resident debuggers! Sure, you could develop a "Full-Function Resident Debug Monitor" - but I am certain that your efforts would be far better spent in applying the capabilities of modern on-chip debug hardware in conjunction with JTAG interfaces. Why do you want to constrain yourself with 1980's restrictions when you're using 21st century techology (FPGA, etc)? And, of course, a JTAG interface isn't restricted to just software debugging - you can use Boundary Scan to build a complete board-level hardware test... |
