I don't expect everyone to distribute source code for their IP. I provide it where it's a contracted deliverable. There are many very useful bits of software, however, that are distributed together with source code, so that any desired mod can be made and any perceived bug can be expunged without further involvement of the author. Also, the GNU project is not to be ignored.
