If you compare a C8051f120 with an AVR you will see that the above is totally false.

what is the big difference between the SILabs USB 'dongle' and the Atmel 'programming cable' ?

BTW: I have personally used many Cygnal parts and the IDE/debugger is amaizing but the parts has to be procured every time which takes CONSEDRABLE lead time. Whereas this isnt a problem with AVRS.
