Putting relays on the uC board is, in itself, not wrong, the problem is that doing so brings whatever the relay contacts carry onto the board. Of course, if what the contacts carry is e.g. low voltage audio, you may be OK, but based on this thread I doubt it is 'peaceful' stuff. Erik They are relays and they are used to switch DC voltages up to 24V and current not bigger than 100mA. I don't allow users to switch AC lines directly with these relays. We never had any problem when switching low voltage DC using onboard relays because it's easy to suppress EMI with protection diodes. The problem happens when someone uses my onboard Relay to drive a bigger Relay(Coil=12V DC) that switches high AC/DC currents. In this case the EMI generated in the big Relay finds its way back to my board and causes a latch-up. |
