#147194 - Decoupling Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Just a bit of advice.
Just be careful with the decoupling capacitors, as Kai says use 100nF /X7R's and DON'T use any other values in parallel, this is often seen on application notes (say 100nF + 10nf), even three is not uncommon. This will actually cause more problems than it appears to solve. Also as Kai says don't use the DIL40 package, it is impossible to properly decouple the supply pins. Stick to the single 100nF X7R's for all IC decoupling. I've not had much trouble with 7805's, just make sure that the feed to them is properly protected (transorbs etc), and filtered, and that the 7805 is properly decoupled. Some Low Drop Out types of regulator do have the tendency to oscillate if not properly decoupled and loaded. |
