It seems to me he mostly abandoned it because he didn't have the time to maintain it, his interests changed, and because of part availability in Thailand. Anyone that has worked with both the 8051 and the PIC know there's pretty much no reason to go with a PIC from a technical standpoint. PICs are a nightmare. They do have availability, though, and that's where they have an advantage--especially to the hobbyist. Personally, I have a hard time taking seriously any architecture that is only available from a single vendor. At the same time it's hard to take an architecture seriously if it's just plain not available! Regards, Craig Steiner |
