I want to answer your question by quoting from a reply from Michael Karas. I hope he is allowing me to do so. I do this, because this reply totally hits the point:


It does get tiring to read over and over again some of these posts where you [Erik] and Andy are endlessly correcting people on stupid little symantic issues. Let up a little.

But this is not a reason to constantly lambast these people for writing the wrong words, making minor mistakes, or using certain slang.

I'll tell you I get rather sick of seeing this kind of reply over and over and over. These replies make the forum feel like a NEGATIVE place. It also definately has the tendancy of making the readers feel that the posters of these replies are abrasive and egotistical. And certainly this type of reply has little or no bearing on the effectiveness of this forum.


That's it. If someone all the time treats posters, mostly newbies, in an unfriendly manner which sometimes tend to become even sadisitic, without being stopped by the moderator, then they do change the profil of such a forum. It becomes a negative place. By the way, these unfriendly posters do also violate the forum rules, as they do permamently carry aggression into the forum.

I'll tell you, that some of my post were deleted, because they were too 'flaming'. Ok, I accept this, because there are rules which must be followed by everyone. But if I do compare these with some posts of Andy and Erik, which are really disgusting sometimes and see, that they are not banned at all, then I get the feeling, that the forum rules are not at all valid to everyone in the same manner.

And, I'm really sorry to have to write this, but I do also think, that Steve is not willing to stop this permanent aggression, just the opposite. Whenever I tried to discuss this issue in the past, not to be so unfriendly to newbies, Steve notoriously gave a negative feedback, like: 'Forum rules must be fullfilled!', or 'If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!'. That's not the right attitude for moderating a discussion forum, but more the motto for box coach, it seems to me. It will not decrease the level of aggression in this forum, but just the opposite.
