In one of my "early" designs I used a "delay line" made of 2 spare 74LS00 gates. .... The lesson: faster does not mean better :-)
I see no such lesson. What you are saying is that faster is not the same. Faster IS better if you need it. If you do not need it it is not "worse" if you know what you are doing. Replacing gates used for delay (the tolerances on gate delay would make that the wrong choise in most (NOT all) cases anyhow) with another technology and getting hosed just show that comments were needed. Yes, I know that comments on schematics is a rare thing, but who told you that the TTL technology would not improve and the min delay of the gates would not shrink? Erik |
