I respect your opinion very much, and I see your point very clearly. In my position (which is one of many),everything is going smooth and somebody throws a kink in the works by saying, "You can't get that one anymore, but this one will work", you take that as ok, test it and everything looks ok. Then a little later problems start popping up,... THEN you start looking for answers. My first thought was power problems, EMI, etc. at the problem location. But a couple of places already had our machines in the same area of their facility. After doing some research, I found the differences of the S52 and the C52 and the original Intel 87C51 that the project originally used. This particular RC circuit didn't pose a problem with the AT89C52 so I didn't have to look for an answer. In these cases the RC never failed to properly start, and it still starts reliably with the S52, but I really think it might be more susceptible to certain problems (such as mild brownouts) I've already made the change for the next batch of boards, I'm just looking for future symptoms to be aware of. The fact is that I've learned my lesson, I'm just looking for probable reprocusions, although I still think that the RC circuit works fine for my application as long as it's appropriate for the particular part. The supervisor does look like it would eliminate that problem, so that's what I'll do from now on. I'm still learning! Jon |
