#91570 - Yep Responding to: ???'s previous message |
That's not a customer... it's me, but yes there has been an occasion or two when it's been necessary for the customer to replace a chip. For instance when they want special features and there's a bug in the initial release or it would be nice if it did this or that. It's a whole lot cheaper to Next Day Air them a chip, then for them to NDA the control back and me to NDA it back to them. Plus it costs them two days of production instead of one. Most of our customers can't live without their machine once they have it. I've envisioned the idea of them being able to plug into the telephone or to plug a serial cable from a PC and do it over the internet. But the reality is it's not needed 99 out of 100 cases. Most buy the standard machine, which is normally very reliable and trouble-free.
Jon BTW I've never had a customer zap a chip with ESD. |
