if you took the time to read, you would see that this thread is about ISP (In System Programming) not about kitchen table programmers.
Why do you not use an ISP chip and concentrate on circuits that do things instead of wasting time "learning" stuff you will have no use for once the supply of discontinued chips dries out. I know of no chip released in the last 3 years that does not have ISP, but, of course if your only supplier is an antique shop, go ahead. WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY do so many keep at this unnecessary, obsolete, ridicoulous, stupid, non-productive excersize of worring about silly remarks like "Basically you become an Idiot who can hook up a serial or parallel cable and stick a chip in a socket and program a MPU IC." when anyone with a grain of sense by that definition are "idiots". The sillyu statement is even WRONG: if you use ISP you will not "stick a chip in a socket" sice the chip is already in the "system", thus ISP. Learn how to program the uC, learn how to design circuits with it, do not waste precious time on building outdated stuff just to be able to use discontinued chips. Erik Some popular ISP chips are the Atmel AT89S5x, AT89c51xx2 - Philips P89x51Rx2, P89LSPxxx - all SILabs issues and many many more. |
