#97770 - Programmers vs cables Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Well $25 for a cable, that's what I call a bargain! :-) And we are still at $$s rather than $s... I can't look at the pdfs associated with the given link now, but I suspect, this is the LPT-bit-bang-style "cable" I have spoken against. See my arguments above. And the value of $$$ programmers I am reffering to are not given by their complexity as given by number of parts, but the involved know-how and the increased value given by higher success of programming compared to the "kitchenware" (including the manufacturer-provided LPT-bit-banging "cables"). They provide more accurate voltage levels and timing at high programming speeds, ESD protection, native connectivity to "legacy-free" PCs (USB); some of them provide standalone operation (for field upgrades which can be done with no extra equipment (e.g. laptop) by unqualified personnell) and mass storage (flash card) support, and are not limited to a single family mcu's. As an example why to buy a real programmer for ISP, see http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=84068 and the thread thereafter. Jan Waclawek |
