#116948 - a couple of points Responding to: ???'s previous message |
1) for many tools the purchase price is the least significant issue, the "annual maintenance fee" will often be more when added up for the life of the tool.
2) eval/demo versions are worthless, if a vendor will not "loan" you a full tool, you can not evaluate and will need to decide on experience of others.. 3) since you are the summer intern and will not be the permanent user, you need to ask around about things like "how important is the IDE" "if you insist on an IDE, are there any editor functions you can not live without" "if you insist on an IDE, will you accept an ICE that is not integrated with the IDE" "if you otherwise get the IDE you want, will you accept going outside the IDE for some of the features you want". This is leading towards the fact that any IDE I know has a miserable editor and most ICEs can not be integrated. Basically you have 2 choices a) everything integrated with one component excellent or b) everything excellent and nothing integrated. Erik |
