Software houses should offer refunds
And I'm sure the better ones would do so, if they were selling to a community that was 99% honest. HOWEVER, if e.g. Keil offered refunds, there would be thousands of users out there using a full Keil toolset AFTER having collected the refund. If asked about their lack of honesty, they would reply "software should be free" or some such nonsense. Come up with a scheme where software is a physical, non-copyable entity so a return actually prevented the user from ANY benefit and I think many would offer refunds if you asked. If you have a reputation for honesty, they DO "offer refunds" albeit not by offering refunds but I have NEVER had a problem borrowing a full toolset from ANY toolmaker except Tasking. I have, on various occasions, borrowed ORCAD, Keil, Raisonance, IAR, Franklin and more. Erik |
