He'll only save time if he knows how to make it work consistently. His loss so far is maybe $10, and some time, which costs little in a hobby setting. What he is losing right now is not only these 10USD, but his self-confidence, because he doesn't get this damn thing work what you tell him is easy to realize. Thought about that? Fabricating a double sided board by hands with the exposing methode is not at all simple! Joseph said:
I'm sorry to disagree with you, but I'm afraid I must. It is simply errant to suggest that since his first effort to produce his own PWB failed that he therefore shouldn't have tried, or even that he would be better off if he hadn't. Joseph, I have made dozends or even hundreds of boards by hands since the 70', when I began doing electronics as a hobbyist. And I know very well how difficult it is to do this exposing and etching right and how many traps exist. Exposing boards is a job for a professional hobbyist, not for a newbie I would Mike count to. It's even difficult to get a single sided board to work. Exposing worked so unreliable for me, that I mostly did the artwork directly on the board by the help of "Dalo 2M Professional" etch resist pen, instead of this exposing. I could even fabricate double sided boards, by drilling the holes first, so that I always knew where the pins of chips were located. Bloody hell, my minidrill had a hard job... Certain boards I let expose by a good friend who had specialized in exposing. He made long tests with the printed circuit board material, with the cleaning, with the coating, with the baking, with the stocking, with the exposing and the developing. He consequently improved his methode, became our exposing expert, could help out many friends by this and - nevertheless failed from time to time! What you, Rob and Joseph do is to tell Mike, that exposing a double sided board is a simple job, which he can easily manage by following some little advices. I say, exposing is such a complex methode, that a bloody newbie, never having done this before, should let fabricate his board. Not neccessarily by PCBpool, but at least by a good friend having specialized in exposing of boards. Come on, guys, do you really fabricate your double sided boards today, by self exposing and self etching them?? Why is it wrong to recommend him to let the board fabricate? Why is it wrong to understand the board as a component, being fabricated by professionals, like the chips, caps and resistors are fabricated? Only because we old bones had to go the hard way (because of no alternatives!) he shall suffer too? Kai |
