#132279 - Sad but true... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
so it's going to be with us for a while. Their usual response to objection to their programming language choice goes something like this: 'I'm a <field of interest other than computer science> and I've learned to work with PDP-11 and later Fortran and I can't allocate time to learn new programming language'. Being very simple in structure, as an exercise, we were required to write Fortran2Pascal syntax translators (ok - spaghetti will remain spaghetti but in Pascal), so if you have old computational fortran program you would like to 'renew' it isn't much of a problem really... Or, you could call it as DLL or something, I've even seen some Fortran compiler signatures in some Windows printer drivers... The problem is in - minds, not resources :( As I've said - it is personal. But even ChiWritter was eventualy abandoned, so I'll keep waiting :) Best luck, CN |
