In a non-flash part, there is nothing that can go wrong internally when the power is removed. So what if there is a stray write to RAM location 3C?
true if power is removed. However if power just dips a bit and immediately comes back you can have runaway code. OR, to take your example, the value in 3C is put to a device that goes crazy (like the knitting machine I mentioned in http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=133926 )
