Is this all necessary? What is the reason of such a complicated procedure? Couldn't the reset be applied at any clock cycle, or, heavens forgive me, be even asynchronous? At least as far as the ports (and any other potentially dangerous logic) is concerned?

Also, in light of these facts, I cease to have a possible explanation for my story # 2 (short pulses on reset pin causing "funny" behaviour)... Any other possible cause?
