BGAs are difficult sometimes but nowhere near as bad as your figures would suggest.Ive worked with production people and we can get 90-95% of BGA packages right first time.Its all in the reflow profile,once you have that right then its plain sailing.
Also if you click on 'links' here you'll find a company called
quickchip http://www.quickchip.de/ who seem to produce an 8052 softcore although their demo they provide as an edf file I havent had a chance to look at it,there being no testbench provided, and it seems to be their only product.
