"BGAs are difficult sometimes but nowhere near as bad as your figures would suggest. Ive worked with production people and we can get 90-95% of BGA packages right first time. Its all in the reflow profile, once you have that right then its plain sailing ..." I'm just describing my own experience. I'm sure that, if everyone had the same experience, nobody anywhere would use BGA packages. Nonetheless, if I want precise board manufacture at reasonable prices, I don't look for it in the U.S. Too often, I've had to go through several cycles in order to get a useable product. The problem is that I have to have the assembled boards inspected with (x-ray) equipment I can't justify owning, and that occurs every time boards are manufactured/assembled here in the U.S. The problem is that the U.S. culture seems to have detiorated to, "10% is good enough..." while using an Asian house, which can do the work for a very reasonable prices guarantees you a competitor using your IP within a week or two. If only U.S. houses had daily sobriety testing of their workers ... <sigh> ... RE |
