The only REAL question really is whether there are ANY 805x's ANYWHERE that function properly at all. If they require additional components to keep them from failing to meet their claimed specifications, something's wrong, and not with the application design. As I mentioned many times, we do use various processors including, but not limited to, variants of '51 (Atmel and Temic - now Atmel, too) - with battery backuped RAMs, in a dozen of different applications, in thousands of installations; all of which would of course fail noticeably if the RAM is corrupted (that's why the battery is there, to prevent RAM corruption), powered up and down regularly, many of them in harsh environment. We do have problems with dying batteries (especially in hot environment), but not with random data corruption. As you might have noticed, I do insist (and so do my colleagues responsible for the hardware part) on using a reset IC all the time. We used almost all families of the ICs except the tripods throughout the last 10+ years. JW |
