With only a 3-pin connection, you've changed your PC's configuration in order to make the serial port work without handshaking. Those "other devices" that have led to your conclusion that these serial ports are "damaged" may simply be responding, actually not responding, to the persistent configuration change. Have you considered that?

You've really provided no indication of how you have proven the serial ports to be damaged. From where I sit, it is not at all certain that they have been damaged.
