I have an inherited board where an idiot did the layout. 19 decoupling capacitors are in a neat row at the topleft corner of the board. Thus since then all my schematics have the decoupling capacitor shown next to the chip it decouples. Erik Great example of why they should be placed next to their respective IC's in schematics. I haven't seen this myself but (sadly) I don't doubt it. Some where in EE course work it would seem useful to have a course dedicated to making a complete PCB, from idea to a populated and working PCB. Schools could do better bridging the gap between school work and actual work as a EE. In my short time working professionally as a EE (1.5 years) I have found it useful to have your schematics resemble the physical layout. While we might not know the exact physical placement of all our components before layout, we should know the general area each component will be relative to other components. |
