Don't mess about with your eyes, get a decent microscope - the "mantis" scopes from Vision engineering are very nice.
not to worry, I have a couple of eagle eyed techies and let them do most. for what I do myself I have a gian magnifying glass mounted on a swingarm which serves quite well.

I manage, just wonder how the kids will cope when they reach our age.
