I disagree, for me if I have an external connection such as a transmit or receive I imagine my net labels and labels on my board as an explanation of my boards functionality. If I had a serial port then the pin my board transmits on will be labeled "Transmit" or "Tx". Each label means "This is what I do", "I transmit here", "I receive here".

This could be a matter of opinion, but it makes much more sense to me to label things in this manner.
