#149061 - The MAX232 +10V Capacitor Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I have learned the hard way that the capacitor connected to pin 2 of the MAX232 circuit MUST be connected to VCC, not GND.
If You consult the datasheet of this IC You will notice that they state there that this pin (2) should never go below VCC. Having a big (more than 05uF) capacitor there will momentarily pull down the pine below VCC which in some cases is enough to fry the MAX232. This is highly manufacturer depedant and prolly also depends on the batch. Bypassing this pin to VCC instead of GND is however the way they suggest to do this in the data sheet. You can get the datasheet from Maxim site |
