learning how to solder surface mount chips will soon become mandatory I pity the kids of today simply because I know that the older/weaker your eyes get the smaller the components will be. I can still manage, but if the miniturization continues on the same track what will the size of an uC be in 30 years when the kids of today have 'old' eyes? Well, I know for a fact that they will not be able to hear their hearing will be destroyed by7 boomboxes MP3 etc played at the volume they use.
To build something else ? To modify what you have ?
I would keep all 'modifications' off the devboard and if the only capability you have is DIL etc, then do that on an attached daughterboard.
