While I agree that the biggest advantage of C is its portability, I must also point out that with todays specialized derivatives, that there could be significant rewritng of code when swithcing from one processor to another.
Switching from one derivative of the '51 to another will take about the same time in C and assembler (if properly written). In the "direct to hardware" environment most '51 projects exist in I do not think "the biggest advantage of C is its portability" but that the advantages are coding speed, readability and maintainability. When switching a project from e.g a HC to a '51 there are, of course, some "portability" advantages, but I know of no project that was moved from one processor family to another. Erik |
