Sony use Linux in their TVs, it is used in many set top boxes and my adsl router runs it on an ARM. 2) Linux and Windows both are URTOSs (Unreal Time OS). In many cases what is called "real enough" is, indeed, "real enough" because a) a faster processor and b) no "hard real" devices. As usual you confuse real, hard and fast. Real time implies determinism and deadlines, hard real time implies deadlines which must not be missed. Neither says anything about the timescale over which these occur. There are plenty of real time systems with deadlines measured in minutes but no RTOS will ever approach the speed of response of a hand crafted ISR. Ian |
