Erik: MY point: Then why discuss it here. Because Ian originally said "and in the majority of small real time microcontroller applications an RTOS is a complete waste of time" which implies that there may be applications where the OS may help the developer; or at least applications where the developer may choose that approach for whatever reason. Thus it is worth discussing for those that are interested in it. I've never used an RTOS in any of my projects and using one isn't the first thing I'd think of when analyzing a problem. But I think having as many options available as possible is always a good thing. I don't see anything wrong with an RTOS as long as the developer is aware of the limitations of that OS. If he can conceptualize and implement his solution more easily with an RTOS, and if it works, more power to him. Regards, Craig Steiner |
