I think it's worth noting the following:
We don't choose our operating systems because we prefer one over the other. Nor do we choose the sort of computer for that reason. First, we choose the software that we need in order to do our jobs, and from there, we choose the OS upon which it runs, and the hardware that runs that OS. Clearly, I'd prefer to use something other than Windows. However, until the various software vendors choose to write engineering apps for Mac and Linux (and not charge 4x the price for the Linux version of a Windows program!), then I'm kinda stuck. So, Keil: where's that OS X version of uVision? Xilinx? Where's the OS X version of your fitter tools? ModelTech? Where's the OS X version of ModelSim (whose Windows version is really a port of the Unix version)? I'd really like to have just one computer here. -a |
