#87829 - system vs OS Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Talking about a system (not an OS)
"A real-time system is one in which the correctness of the computations not only depends upon the logical correctness of the computation but also upon the time at which the result is produced. If the timing constraints of the system are not met, system failure is said to have occurred." Absolutely, but where does the URTOS come in in the above statement. If you apply a URTOS to a processor like the '51, most likey "the timing constraints of the system are not met". The statement is correct in both these cases: Without an URTOS you can easily make an ISR that is waaay too long and then, of course, "the timing constraints of the system are not met". With an URTOS you can easily make something that is waaay too long and then, of course, "the timing constraints of the system are not met". So, if an OS is fast enough it is "real time" if it is not fast enough it is not "real time". But in either case it is called "real Time OS" ERGO The use of "Real Time" in the name is incorrect since whether it is, indeed, real time depends on non-OS factors. Erik |
