Tell it to the gatepost
Are you calling my wife a gatepost? I have found that "explaining" to my wife (who have absolutotally no idea what I am talking about) often help me find a bug. There is no need that the "assistant" has any knowledge of programming or the '51. A point: I have found that when the tools do not give you the result in, say, half an hour "debugging" is futile. After such time the only way to kill the insect is to sit back and reason, the "debug" to see if the result of the reasoning is correct and then - often - go back and reason some more. The problem Andy shows in the WYWIWYS post is a crystal clear example of the value of an ICE. Debuging that problem with an ICE would have been WHACK, bug gone. I strongly recommend that all financially strapped amateurs get a SILabs f0xx, f1xx or f2xx developement system, there is no cheaper way to get an "ICE". The rest of us that deal in volumes that make us have to consider the price of the processor, may still have to buy a $1000+ ICE. Erik |
