What are everyone's thoughts on a traditional EPROM socket on the SBC?

Whatever MCU I end up using (I'm leaning heavily towards Atmel due to availability) it will have on-chip flash program memory so presumably most programs will be downloaded to the MCU directly. EPROM will seldom, if ever, be used.

But I'm hesitant to remove an EPROM completely from the SBC since the presence of an EPROM provides material for the discussion of the PSEN line on the MCU. I think this discussion would be clearer if the program is coming from an EPROM rather than coming from an external RAM wired to answer to PSEN which could confuse the line between code memory and data memory.

Or the EPROM can be completely removed from the SBC... Thoughts?
